This week the boys and I were playing outside. I decided that I needed to water the plants, and on my way to get the water hose a 2 foot long snake scared the snot out of me!!! I jumped back, and yelled at the boys to go get in the house. We watched the snake slither alongside the brick all the way to the garage. We rushed into the house. The boys went in their room and set up a huge booby-trap for the snake. I was trying to come up with a plan. I called Billy and sent him the picture of the snake and was going to go out the back door to kill the snake. Or at least to find it. When much to my surprise, a 5 foot long snake was resting right in our back porch. Scary! I called Billy, and he did not answer four times. Finally on the fifth time he answered. I told him that a five foot long snake was on our back porch and he had to come home now! Meanwhile, the boys that set up the blockade for the snake were trapped in their room. So I had to go get them out of their room and somehow get their blockade down. During this time, the snake slithered away. I called my mom and told her to help me. My dad and her showed up 10 minutes later. My dad walked out the back porch looked all around and could not find the snake. Then Billy got home, took one step into the backyard and spotted that snake resting above the window...
I have never seen Billy and such a panic, he was doing Lamaze breathing in the backyard trying to figure out how he was going to get that snake down and kill it.
My dad got the rake Billy had a 2 x 4 and they knocked it off the windowsill and Billy stabbed it with the 2 x 4 until it died. We now have a huge pile of blood on the back porch from the snake. It was a rat snake, which is a good snake. But in the Mathis house we believe any snake is a bad thing.
The funniest thing about this whole problem, was that my dad told the boys it was a Mexican death snake. Needless to say, the boys really thought it was a Mexican death snake. We could just imagine them going to school telling their teachers they killed a Mexican. Oh how they would get in trouble. It is a few days passed and we finally can venture out on the back porch. We still look high and low for snakes.
That night we went and got our cat Link back from my parents house. Hopefully she will keep the snakes away.
