Flag football!

Brant is on the best flag football team.  The team consists of all of his friends!  Brant loves football so much, and he gets so excited to play every weekend and he even loves practice.  Just this morning he was sad that he only had practice once this week.  He wanted to know why he did not have it twice this week.  He loves to pull flags, be the quarter back and throw passes, and score the extra points.

Last week games, we threw 2 touchdown passes, 1 interception, and scored the extra point.  He was so cute, he told me that the 2nd team he played was first graders and he still beat them.

Brant is also very money hungry.  Before his game he asked us if $5 for a pick 6 was good.  He makes me laugh daily.

Super Bowl Champs!

Slade's tackle football team went into the playoffs in 3rd place.  The first game we played Azle and barely won 21-20.  The next game we had to play White Settlement, who beat us 20-0 during the season.  We came out ready!!  We held them and ended up winning 26-0!  It was awesome.  Well, for the Super Bowl, we had to play the other Aledo team.  This Aledo team had not lost a game since 1st grade.  Slade was super nervous and excited.

Our team has done such a good job making us all come together as a team.  The moms painted the building and we even had a team dinner the night before the game.  I had just given birth to Steel on Tuesday, and we were not planning on going to the dinner, but Slade told me Friday morning that his team was having a dinner and asked if we were going to go.  Well, that made me feel horrible, so Slade, Brant and I went to the dinner.  My mom kept little Steel.  I was glad we went.  Slade had a great time and loved being with his team.

The morning of the game, we all met at the building and took a team picture.  Then they all followed each other to the game in Ponder.  Which was an hour away. I was bummed that I did not get to go, but little Steel was only a few days old.

It was kinda weird to play his friends, but he did such a good job.  We ended up winning 12-0!!! Slade was so excited and he finally got a ring.  Billy said that Slade blocked so good, that the quarter back just followed him and scored!!!

Jaundice

Little Steel had a few days that we had to monitor him for Jaundice.  It was not too scary, but he definitely looked like he had a nice tan.  Billy and I are not tan people, so we knew it was jaundice.  We went to the doctor the day after being discharged from the hospital to get his bilirubin checked and it was 12.  The doctor said that we could not get the lights at home and come back tomorrow to have it checked, or we could have the lights at home.  We decided to have the lights.  Steel liked it at first, but then after 36 hours, he was not having it.  It was like his own little tanning bed.  He had to be on it non stop and only allowed off for eating and changing his diaper.  Thank goodness it worked, and his levels dropped.

Baby Steel has arrived!

We are so happy that our baby has finally made his appearance! We love him so much, and already, he has just fit in perfectly with our family.

I was scheduled to be induced on Tuesday, November 8th.  We had to be there at 4:00 AM!  It was super early, and of course we were 10 minutes late.  When we got there, they said, "Oh, you must be Ashley, usually people call an hour ahead of time to make sure that we have a spot."  Luckily, they did have a spot, and I got hooked up to the monitors and they started the pitocin and antibiotics.

The first crazy thing that happened, was the monitor would not stay on my stomach, so every time I had a contraction, it would slip off and it would look like the babies heart beat would drop.  The nurse got me so nervous and said that she was hoping that I would not have a c-section, because it was showing the heartbeat falling which could signal a cord problem.  Billy left for work around 6:30, and I just hung out and waited for the contractions to start up.  Dr. Alexis came in around 9:30 and broke my water.  After that it was AWFUL!  Billy finally showed up around 10:30 right around the time I got my epidural.  After I got the epidural, it was smooth sailing!  Dr. Alexis came back in on her lunch break and decided it was time for me to start pushing.

Poor Steel got a little stuck and had bruising all over his face and arms when he was born.  It was so sad.  And, the cord was wrapped around his neck, but not tight at all.

Steel Jack Mathis was born on 11/08/16 weighing 8 pounds 8 oz, and 21 inches long.

We are so blessed.
